Announcements

You're invited to Lindale Mennonite Church (north of Harrisonburg) this evening at 6:30pm for a 5th Sunday night of worship lead by the Lindale worship team. We will be singing about crying out to God, followed by celebrating God's promise to never leave us or forsake us. We will also have a time of sharing about times we have cried out to God and how He has made himself known in our time of need.

"Walking on Water: Trust that Jesus trusts YOU!" is the theme of VMC's Middle School One-Day Retreat, September 26, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm at Eastern Mennonite School. Rebekka Stutzman will be the featured speaker. Rebekka has a passion for young people and is currently on home assignment from her family's service in Germany with VMMissions and Mennonite Mission Network. Cost is $30 for the day. Contact Deb Horst at deb@lindale.org to sign up.

The remaining apple butter from last year is available for ½ price! See Nelson for more information.

Save the dates: Applesauce making, September 8 and 18; Apple butter boiling, September 12 and 19. More information to come.

Please pray for:

  • Joyce Showalter as she heals at home from shoulder surgery.

  • Those affected by the shooting at Smith Mountain Lake.

Be doers of the word

Gathering

Leader: Who has a god as near as the Lord our God whenever
we call to him?
All: Those who diligently observe the commandments, who
walk blamelessly, and do what is right—
Leader: who not only honor God with their lips, but also
through actions; who not only hear the word, but are
also doers of the word;
People: who care for orphans and widows in distress;
who keep their promises even when it hurts;
All: who are slow to anger and quick to welcome with meekness
the implanted word that has the power to save
our souls!

Confessing

Holy God, you know our hearts and all the evil intentions that
come from within that make us unclean. You know when we
try to hide our sins by keeping up a good front or by comparing
ourselves to others who have openly broken the law. You know
the hypocrisy and wrongful pride that manifests itself when we
speak and point our fingers to condemn others.
People see when our actions do not match what we say we
believe. Our sins keep them from seeing your light, your truth,
and your love.
Forgive us, Lord. Make our hearts pure and our actions loving.
Amen.

Sending

You have heard God’s perfect law. Go now, letting God’s light
shine in your life in all you say and all you do, knowing God’s
blessing as you become a blessing to others.
—Susan Miller, Hesston, Kansas
